Flood Zones in Dennis and Yarmouth expand

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has recently (July 16, 2014) updated flood maps for Cape Cod. Dennis saw the most changes. See the changes in an awesome interactive web page on the Cape Cod Commission website.

Some properties in low-risk zones B, C and X have been reclassified as high-risk zone A or V. If your property is affected by these changes and you have a mortgage, the mortgage company may require you to purchase flood insurance, especially if you refinance.

Properties that were in zones B, C and X may still qualify for low-cost "preferred risk" flood insurance for two years. If your property is in these zones and you currently have flood insurance, you will be grandfathered in.
