The Coastal Barrier Resources Act
The Coastal Barrier Resources Act ("CBRA") has been enacted in
response to concerns about the fragile nature of coastal barriers
and their exposure to coastal storms. The intent of this act is
to remove the federal government from financing associated with
building and rebuilding, thus limiting development in these
areas.
Flood Insurance is not available in CBRA designated
areas.
Claim settlements are delayed if the NFIP does not have
substantiation in file that the dwelling is not located in a CBRA
area. Most agents can arrange for a
certified flood zone determination.
